Natural Burial
What is Natural Burial?
Natural burial, often called green or woodland burial, is an environmentally conscious method of burial. The concept was started in the UK in the 1990's. Only natural materials can be used in the process and the burial area is intended for the creation, improvement or preservation of habitats. Coffins and anything placed in the grave, including clothing, must be biodegradable. Natural burial leaves a positive, living legacy for future generations.
A natural burial ground looks different to a typical cemetery. At Hemington Natural Burial we keep memorialisation and marking of graves to a minimum. Much of our grass and meadow area is left to grow long with infrequent cuttings, encouraging biodiversity and providing habitat. Our aim is to join two areas of woodland adjacent to our site permanently through burial. Here families and friends have a place to visit which evolves with the seasons and grows over time.
We welcome people from all faiths and background at Hemington Natural Burial. Burial services are not rushed and can take on almost any form allowing freedom to celebrate life as you see fit, free from the constraints offered by many traditional burial options.
More information on natural burial is available from the Association of Natural Burial Grounds of which we are a member.
